Sell-side M&A
Advising founders, owners, and shareholders through the preparation, positioning, marketing, negotiation, and closing of a business sale.

About
Stanley Tobin has spent more than three decades across institutional financial services, capital markets, and investment banking, with a career that has included Merrill Lynch, Alex. Brown, Deutsche Bank, Guggenheim Partners, BNY Capital Markets, Institutional Credit Partners, and Young America Capital.
Today, as Senior Director of Investment Banking at Young America Capital, he brings that breadth of experience to privately held business owners considering a sale, merger, or other significant transaction.
His perspective extends beyond transaction execution to buyer behavior, geopolitical shifts, and the effects of AI-driven investment on infrastructure, skilled trades, manufacturing, and the physical economy.
Through published perspectives and public conversations, Mr. Tobin considers where strategic interest may emerge, which capabilities buyers may value, and how a company can strengthen its position before a sale is under consideration.
Professional history
Mr. Tobin’s career has taken him across institutional financial services, capital markets, business development, and investment banking. That breadth gives him a perspective on transactions that extends beyond execution alone, encompassing markets, capital, counterparties, buyer behavior, and the conditions that influence how businesses are valued and deals get done.
Young America Capital credits Mr. Tobin with more than $260 million in closed transactions across consumer and retail, industrials and manufacturing, technology and media, transportation, and real estate.
What that experience brings to the table
Mr. Tobin’s background has given him exposure to markets, capital, institutional investors, business development, and M&A from different vantage points. For an owner, that means advice informed not only by how a transaction is executed, but by how buyers think, how markets change, where negotiating leverage can be created, and which issues are likely to matter before they appear in diligence or negotiations.
That breadth supports the judgment and pattern recognition needed to distinguish a manageable issue from one that could materially affect timing, value, or closing certainty.

Stanley currently resides in Sarasota, Florida and places great importance on family, faith, and the relationships that have shaped his life. He is the father of four, grandfather of two, and uncle to 21 nieces and nephews. He especially values the time he spends with his girlfriend Patti and his close-knit extended family.
His Christian faith is an important part of his life and something he relies on heavily in maintaining perspective, balance, and a productive approach to both his personal and professional responsibilities.
Outside of work, Stanley enjoys travel, golf, and particularly big-game fishing. For him, fishing is more than recreation. It requires preparation, patience, discipline, an understanding of changing conditions, and the judgment to know when to act. He sees many of those same qualities in business, where preparation matters, circumstances can change quickly, and experience often makes the difference between recognizing an opportunity and missing it.
Time on the water also gives Stanley an opportunity to step away from the pace of business, spend time in nature, and return with a renewed sense of perspective. Together, his family, faith, and interests outside of work are an important part of the balance he brings to his life and career.
“Big-game fishing is one of the best analogies I know for business. Long before the opportunity appears, you have to be prepared. Every knot has to be tight, every line checked, the equipment ready, and you have to understand the conditions around you. You can be patient for hours, but when the opportunity finally presents itself, you have to recognize it and act decisively. Selling a company is much the same. The preparation is done well before the transaction begins, and when the right buyer, the right market, and the right moment come together, you need to be ready.”
A confidential first conversation
Whether a transaction is being considered now or may still be years away, an early conversation can help clarify what the business may need, what the market may see, and what can be done today to strengthen the owner’s position.
